6G Flagship
The 6G Flagship is the world’s first large-scale 6G research programme. Led by the University of Oulu and funded by the University together with the Research Council of Finland during its main programme period, it has operated since 2018.
The research focus of the 6G Flagship is on the scientific foundations of future wireless networks, including the resilience of communication systems, distributed intelligence, and the interaction between communications technologies and society. This work has positioned the programme to play an early and formative role in shaping the global 6G research agenda, in close engagement with industry and policymakers.
The programme’s research has consistently helped drive the evolution of wireless technologies from beyond-5G towards 6G, combining systems research and new communication paradigms. It has done so through European and international collaboration, including selected pilot activities and experimentation in research and test environments, connecting fundamental research with emerging applications and real-world requirements.
